2025 Mission Trip

Greetings to all CDP supporters!
God answered many prayers and made it possible to carry out field work during July and August.
Thank you to those people who helped this happen through prayer, financial support and volunteering.
In May, the ministry team at Picton and Wilton Anglican churches agreed to support the work of CDP through prayer and public promotion.  This has made a huge difference in awareness and support.
I am appreciative also of the Monday afternoon “Women Together” group for their contribution and commitment.
The afternoon tea held in September was a great time of fellowship and it was great to have many questions to answer.  Thank you to all those who were able to come.
This newsletter includes a video, and I hope you enjoy watching it.  You will find a link at the end of this newsletter.

Church Support from Picton & Wilton Anglican Churches
Support for CDP has really grown this year with the support of my parish - Picton & Wilton. People from all three congregations are helping in different ways.
This is thanks to the willingness of our ministry team who agreed to include CDP in the mission organisations the parish supports.  May 25th was called “CDP Sunday”.
Being able to make everyone aware of what CDP does and asking for support is contributing to building a mission focus with action in the parish.
Thank you, Ben, Scott and Jake, for making this possible!

TALANTA GIRLS SECONDARY SCHOOL
It was very exciting to visit the school in Tarime, the 14 girls including the 6 sponsored through CDP, who are all boarding students and, of course, the staff.  I spent a day with them which was a great joy.  Please watch the video which will be much more entertaining than reading my words.  There is a link at the end of this newsletter.
Especially important was the opportunity to visit the families of the six girls sponsored through CDP supporters.  Each of the families has their own story to tell and some are very heart wrenching.
Visiting the villages and families explained why each of the girls sponsored were at risk of teenage marriage and FGM.  In general, mothers do not want their daughters to experience what they have endured and continues to cause suffering.  I see these mums as pioneers in speaking out and standing up even though, in some cases, it has caused further suffering for them.
The families were very surprised and pleased to meet me as they were able to say “Asante sana” (Thank you very much) for caring so much about their girls.
If you would like to be part of scholarship opportunities, don’t hesitate to ask me how you can be involved.  There are ways, other than providing a full scholarship, that you can support these girls.

VISIT FROM HELEN HOSKINS
Helen Hoskins (ex CMS) was in Tanzania during the time of my visit and we saw each other a few times.  It was a joy to spend my last few days with her at Bunda as a guest in her Tanzanian home along with Miss Beatrice, Headmistress of Talanta Girls School.

TRAINING
2024
The training carried out in November last year has meant that more than 600 families have
been able to become members of their community bank.  I visited more than 20 businesses where owners gave testimony to how the training is helping them increase income and provide for themselves and their families in a much better way.  They all showed deep appreciation for the training and asked for their thanks to be passed on to all who made this possible.
2025
120 participants attended Community Development Training for Leaders and Community Bank training in July.  This is double the number who attended in 2024.  The invitation to attend was extended to people from more than 70 villages.  CDP training is used as an outreach from the church into the wider community.  30% of those attended were not members of the church and represented elected leaders (like our local council) as well as government employees.
We saw how the church and wider community made connections and started working together for community development in their villages and the region.

FOLLOW-UP
Thanks to technology, I am utilising WhatsApp to stay in touch with participants.  I will be sending monthly requests for information and statistics.  This data will go straight into our database and make analysis an easy task.  This is a multi-purpose activity.
  1. It will identify successes and highlight where people need some help.
  2. As CDP is accountable to its supporters, this gives us real evidence so you have confidence to continue your support.
  3. CDP can measure its effectiveness and put a value on every dollar received.

WHAT'S NEXT?
We have already been approached by two more Anglican Diocese in Tanzania to take CDP training to their villages.  A budget has been drafted and planning will be underway soon.
To accept these invitations we need your pledges.
As little as $25 each month connects you with people that need help.

WONDERING HOW YOU CAN HELP?
Help me secure invitations to be a guest speaker.  Morning and afternoon teas have proved to be successful even with small numbers in attendance.  This raises much needed awareness and often provides very valuable connections as well as donations.

Remember Tupperware parties?  One person hosted then others decided to host and invite more people.  A member of my own church family makes quality jewellery and donated a whole suitcase full of earrings, bracelets, necklaces and rings.  Would you consider helping us turn this into cash and host a CDP jewellery “party”?

I am very thankful to the group of volunteers who make things to sell.  Tables always attract attention and bring in much-needed funds.  And there are other ways you can get involved. Read more...
