PRIVACY POLICY

Community Development Projects Inc. (CDP) is committed to protecting the privacy of all individuals whose personal information it collects and handles. This Privacy Policy explains how CDP manages personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

CDP is dedicated to ensuring that the personal information of its partners, supporters, volunteers, and donors is treated with the utmost care and confidentiality. Individuals can be confident that any personal information provided to CDP will be handled securely and in accordance with applicable privacy laws.

CDP is bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles contained in that Act. CDP collects, uses, discloses, and stores personal information only as permitted by the Privacy Act and other relevant legislation.

Under the Privacy Act, CDP is required to maintain a clearly expressed and up-to-date privacy policy describing how it manages personal information. This Privacy Policy sets out CDP’s practices and procedures for complying with its obligations under the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles.

Collecting of Personal Information

CDP may collect personal information about donors, individuals who have expressed an interest in donating to CDP (Prospective Donors), newsletter subscribers, contractors, volunteers, and suppliers.

In general, the personal information collected by CDP may include, but is not limited to, an individual’s name, contact details, and date of birth. CDP collects only the personal information that is reasonably necessary for its functions and activities. In limited circumstances, CDP may also collect sensitive information. CDP will not collect sensitive information unless the individual has provided consent and the collection is required by law or otherwise permitted under applicable privacy laws.

CDP offers individuals the option of making donations anonymously. Where an individual wishes to remain anonymous, CDP will take reasonable steps to ensure that the individual’s personal information is not disclosed for any other purpose. However, CDP may be required to collect and retain certain personal information in order to process electronic donations.

Where CDP receives unsolicited personal information (that is, personal information provided where CDP has not taken active steps to collect it), CDP will, where lawful and reasonable to do so, take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify the information as soon as practicable.

Use of Personal Information

CDP may collect, hold, use, and disclose personal information for the following general purposes:
  • To advance our mission of helping people and communities overcome poverty and to facilitate the receipt of donations;
  • To enter into and administer agreements with contractors, vendors, service providers, and other third parties that support the delivery of our mission;
  • To provide interested individuals with information about CDP’s news, events, campaigns, advertising, and other activities, and to invite them to support our work;
  • To comply with applicable legal and regulatory obligations; and
  • To manage, maintain, and improve our services and operations.

Storage of Personal Information

CDP takes reasonable steps to protect the personal information it holds from misuse, interference, and loss, as well as from unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.

Personal information may be stored in both paper-based and electronic formats, including in secure cloud-based systems. All personal information is managed and stored in accordance with recognised industry standards for records management and cybersecurity.

To safeguard personal information, CDP implements a range of technical, physical, and administrative security measures, including:
  • Secure storage of physical records;
  • Firewalls and other network security controls;
  • Password-protected systems and restricted access to electronic records;
  • Regular security risk assessments and ongoing monitoring;
  • Internal policies and procedures governing access to personal information; and
  • Policies and procedures relating to the retention, storage, and secure destruction or de-identification of personal information.

Donor Information

CDP collects personal information from donors and prospective donors to:
  • Process and receive donations from the public; and
  • Keep current and prospective donors informed about current and upcoming fundraising opportunities.

Some personal information may also be collected directly by, or shared with, third-party financial institutions and service providers to process donation payments and other financial transactions.
